On December 14th, Dr. Philip Lee, our Assistant Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance and Associate Director of the Teaching and Learning Development Office, participated in the Workshop on e-Business (WeB), a distinguished annual one-day event focused on e-Business and e-Commerce. The workshop was held in conjunction with the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and was organized by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). During the event, Dr. Lee presented a FinTech research project titled “The Impacts of Social Media Influencers on Followers’ Responses to Crisis across the Five Stages of Grief: A Case Study of the JPEX Scandal in Hong Kong.”

This project is a collaborative effort between Dr. Lee and his BCom (Hons.) in FinTech student, Mr. Brian Chung, and is based on Brian’s final-year honours project. Notably, Brian also submitted the work to an internal competition co-organized by The Centre for Interdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice & Research (CIEBPR) and the Graduate School at HKSYU, where he won the Outstanding Interdisciplinary Research Proposal Award in April 2024.

Dr. Lee expressed his pride in Brian’s hard work and was delighted by the positive feedback received from attendees at the workshop. The presentation underscores the FinTech programme’s commitment to staying at the forefront of emerging trends in Hong Kong’s crypto industry. Dr. Lee emphasized that this success reflects the growing research-active teaching and learning environment at Shue Yan, creating valuable opportunities for students to engage in impactful research. He hopes that such achievements will inspire future talents at Shue Yan to pursue further studies and contribute to innovative advancements in their fields.
