Our FinTech Year 2 students, Thomas Ng, Gordon Ling, Steven Chan and Sheree Keung, have proudly secured the second runner-up position at the prestigious Inter-University FinTech Innovation Competition 2026. Competing against finalists from CUHK, EdUHK, HSUHK, HKBU, and LU, our students truly demonstrated their innovation, technical prowess, and dedication.

This year’s competition focused on the timely theme: “Tokenization and Digital Assets Revolution.” Continuing his mentorship from previous years, Dr. Philip Lee, Associate Head and Director of the BCom (Hons.) in Financial Technology programme, guided groups of outstanding students from his “BUS251 Blockchain for Business” course, helping them polish their academic coursework into top-tier competition entries.

The winning team captured the judges’ attention by focusing on tokenizing reinsurance ledgers for internal human resources management. This project highlights the growing intersection of blockchain and insurance, signalling the increasing popularity and market relevance of InsurTech.

“Witnessing the growth of these students throughout the process is incredibly rewarding,” shared Dr. Philip Lee, who served as a competition judge for the second consecutive year. He emphasized that encouraging students to engage in external initiatives—where they can both compete and collaborate with counterparts from other institutions—is vital for their future professional growth.
