Despite the growing global interest in Islamic finance, there remains a significant lack of structured educational programs in this field, particularly in Hong Kong and many other regions. This educational gap not only limits individuals’ opportunities to pursue careers in Islamic finance but also restricts public awareness of its potential benefits and its role as an ethical alternative to conventional financial systems.
To address this gap, Dr. Philip Lee, the Associate Head of our Department of Economics and Finance, and his FinTech students, Kitty Wong and Kelly Yip, have developed the Islamic Finance Education Hub online and offered a series of short videos aimed at helping the younger generation grasp the principles and applications of Islamic finance. The online platform has been available to the public since 7th July 2025: https://hkdrphileeresearch.com/IslamicInvestment/index.html
Dr. Lee expressed enthusiasm about the project’s launch, emphasizing that it marks a beginning rather than an end. Currently, the platform has been developed without any external funding. They plan to seek funding from various sources in the future. Nonetheless, he stressed that his team will continue to improve the platform’s content regardless of external funding.
