SafeRent, a student startup team from Hong Kong Shue Yan University, was named one of the ten outstanding teams at the Cyberport University Partnership Programme 2026 (CUPP) Graduation Ceremony. The team was awarded HK$100,000 in seed funding from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) to support the development of its product prototype over the next six months as it embarks on its entrepreneurial journey.

Similar to previous years, the programme was supported by 12 local universities. Each institution could nominate up to 20 teams, with only 20 teams selected overall across all participating institutions for the entrepreneurship training. These teams participated in an entrepreneurship boot camp at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom, culminating in the top 10 teams being awarded seed funding.

Dr Philip Lee, Associate Head of the Department of Economics and Finance and the mentor for the student team, said, “Happy to see the students’ efforts have paid off. This is not the end but the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey, and the Shue Yan family will continue to guide and support them.”

The “SafeRent” team consists of three students from the Department of Economics and Finance and one student from the Department of Data Science and Digital Innovation at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, alongside one student from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. SafeRent is a one-stop rental service platform operating under the slogan "Rent with peace of mind, protection, stability, and confidence in Hong Kong." It leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help users search for rental listings, compare prices, and access genuine transaction clues. Additionally, it offers a "Listing and Lease Review" service to review lease terms and verify property identities. The platform can also arrange on-site assistance to create verifiable, reviewable, and follow-up-ready property records, providing users with on-site videos, risk verification, and contract communications via platform notifications and email follow-ups.
