Our FinTech students—Thomas Ng, Eric Lee, Gordon Ling, Steven Chan, and Sheree Keung—secured a finalist position in the prestigious Bank of China (BOC) HK Challenge 2026, emerging as one of only six student teams selected from over 300 initial applications. Competing against peers from across local universities, the team demonstrated exceptional innovation, technical prowess, and dedication.

As a top-6 finalist, the team enjoyed an exclusive visit to BytePlus headquarter and participated in a mentorship workshop with seasoned industry experts before competing at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at the end of August. Their innovative project, “CantoCare,” is a standalone “Uncle Choy” application featuring a Cantonese AI voice designed to help seniors avoid scams and debt.

Dr. Philip Lee, FinTech Programme Director and Associate Head of the Department of Economics and Finance, expressed immense pride in the team, noting that their concept reflects the university’s core spirit of community service. He emphasized that participating in such competitions complements classroom learning by providing hands-on opportunities to solve real-world problems. He also found it deeply rewarding to see students proactively seeking his guidance for external entrepreneurship and innovation competitions, concluding that the programme team's ongoing efforts to foster this drive have truly paid off.
